Chihuahua Woods Preserve
Off Business 83, Mission
This 243 acre wildlife preserve has a 1-mile marked trail and is open during daylight hours only. Visiting parties are limited to six adults; not suitable for children or pets. Area is covered in cactus and thorns; paths are not regularly maintained; no facilities available.
Delta Lake County Park
Located on FM 88, Monte Alto 16 miles north of Weslaco
Man-made, freshwater lake with picnic amenities.
Falcon Lake State Recreation Area
FM 2098 to Park Road 46, Falcon Heights
The mammoth 98,960 acre Falcon Lake has long been considered one of the best largemouth bass lakes in the state and is one of the few places in the lower Rio Grande Valley where you can camp.
Frontera Audubon Society Weslaco Thicket
1101 South Texas Boulevard,Weslaco
This privately owned 15-acre site offers a little something for anyone interested in biodiversity. Great for bird and butterfly watching.
The Javelina is 300 acres of thick South Texas brush designed for photographers to capture birds, mammals and reptiles in their native habitat. Contact required for visit.
McAllen Dog Park
Tamarack Ave and 5th Street
The “off leash” park features a shade structure, landscaping, area lighting, fencing and a walking trail. Great place for your best friend to run and play and jump and sniff…with other dogs.

Located on Wallace Road, northwest of Edinburg
Area is only accessible on foot. In wet years, ponds attract diverse waterfowl.
Valley Nature Center

This six-acre park has a half-mile of trails through native scrub forest.
